The Combat to Construction Traineeship is a Persimmon Homes programme which will enable service leavers to transfer their existing skills into a rewarding second career within the house building industry. We will train and employ service leavers and commit to pay them a living wage during their training, which will lead to a recognised qualification and above all, a fulfilling and rewarding career with the Company.
Through Combat to Construction, an NVQ Level 2 trade training programme will be support service leavers to make the transition from the military into house building, in Bricklaying and Joinery
The skills and experience of many service leavers are highly comparable with those required to work within construction. The Combat to Construction Traineeship builds on those skills to help them start a rewarding new career with us.
Just as in the Armed Forces, Trainees will be working as part of a highly professional team in which every member depends upon their colleagues to get the job done.
Their military training will have given them the flexibility, discipline and loyalty to be adaptable and prepared to travel at short notice, allowing them to make a vital contribution wherever the action is.
The qualification is an NVQ Level 2 Framework in Trowel Occupation (Bricklaying) that can be achieved with hard work and commitment to qualify them into the industry. The training is free and they will receive a living wage to allow them to complete their qualification.
Preferred additional skills

How we can help you
The Company will be running Programmes throughout 2015 and beyond, which will be aimed at Serving or Ex Service personnel from England who are looking for a career as a Bricklayer or Joiner and able to work and train at our Operating Businesses in the following areas:
The programme will start with a 2 week block training period and assessment to enable us to ensure that Trainees will be able to complete the training to an acceptable level and we can quality-assure our Programme.
This period will be based in Darlington, North Yorkshire or Woolwich in London with our training partner Nordic Focus Training Group (NFTG) .There are no fees for the training.
On successful completion of initial Training the trainee will be offered a contracted start date with Persimmon which will tie them into the company for a minimum of 3 years
Once the offer of employment is issued the trainee will return at an agreed time to NFTG and will sign up to the Programme and start a 1-week block period of further training that will include completion of all Health and Safety, and CSCS training to get them safely on site.
Upon commencement with Persimmon the trainee will sign up to an NVQ level 2 at the start of their initial 1-week block training period in Darlington or London , If not already out of service, they must be in their Termination phase or request early termination in order to sign up to the programme and employment.
They will be required to attend 5 further 1-week blocks of training in Darlington or London during the programme.
Combat to Construction will enable semi and non-skilled Armed Forces Personnel to train initially as Bricklayers and joiners and once qualified will see an uplift to trade rates of pay on qualification and the opportunity to earn generous productivity bonuses.

Trainees will earn c. £17000 PA during their training and once qualified, at NVQ level 2, they will earn considerably more.

To date there have been 28 trainees through our programme and they are based at operating businesses across the UK. We are now recruiting for further intakes.
